Jolly Grammar is the next stage, after a first year with Jolly Phonics. It helps children express themselves - for instance by using adjectives and adverbs to bring greater expression to their writing. It also improves their spelling in a structured way and by teaching the key rules.
Jolly Grammar teaches a wide range of language forms including the parts of speech, plurals, punctuation, and the tenses past, present, and future. It also teaches a wide range of spelling rules, including defining aspects such as the short vowels.
Jolly Grammar is designed to take just part of the time devoted to English, in providing the 'language' rather than the 'literature' element. For the 'literature' element children will be reading storybooks, such as the Jolly Readers.
Jolly Grammar is designed for two years of teaching. Together with Jolly Phonics they provide a course for the first three years.
